CAPER
Creative and Participatory Education Research

We are a group of researchers who teach together on undergraduate and postgraduate education courses at De Montfort University. We research a range of education-related topics, from intercultural education to wellbeing, from decolonising to transitions into employment, and from health education to music.
What brings us together is a shared collaborative approach. We know that for many academics in teaching-intensive universities building and sustaining research practice can be hard, especially for disabled academics and those who are parents, careers or precariously employed. Our response has been to work together, co-designing projects, co-authoring and running sessions to share and develop our ideas.
This spirit of collaboration extends to our research participants and the partners we work with. We seek out participatory methodologies and opportunities for co-creation with our students, educational and third sector partners, and people with lived experience in the areas we research.
We are also building skills and practice in creative methodologies, thinking about how these can democratise communication but also offer rich, joyful and expansive research experiences for us and our participants.
This site shares a few of our recent projects, and we will continue to add to these as our shared practice and research community develops.
