The project:
Teaching to Transform the Curriculum (T2TC) builds upon a core, anti-racist educator pathway, Teaching to Transform, which is led by the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre (SLRC) at De Montfort University (DMU). Teaching to Transform seeks to influence anti-racist, social justice-oriented pedagogic practice.
This strand of Teaching to Transform focuses on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) stimulated by minoritised students and was originally offered to teachers and leaders in one secondary Multi-Academy Trust in Leicestershire. SLRC’s subsequent Racial Literacy programme, which was delivered to twenty-three Leicester City secondary schools, further enhanced this strand of the Teaching to Transform programme. Consequently, this Teaching to Transform the Curriculum (T2TC) will evaluate the potential for this racial literacy CPD to engage curriculum leaders across the network of Leicester City secondary schools.
Evaluating this as a possible extension of the pilot Teaching to Transform project to enrich the broader curriculum will enable T2TC to analyse the potential for distributed leadership and engagement across curriculum teams. A crucial element of this work will be exploring with Curriculum leads how the concept of Racial Literacy can be embedded within their curriculum frameworks.
