The project:
• Mission:
Germ’s Journey aims to create a healthier future through infection-prevention education. With over 5 million children under five dying in 2021 primarily from infectious diseases like diarrhea in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) this initiative provides critical, life-saving knowledge.
• Post-COVID Impact:
As antimicrobial resistance rises globally, Germ’s Journey focuses on empowering children with everyday hygiene practices to reduce transmission and mortality.
• Vision:
To educate 1 billion children on infection prevention by 2030.
• Leadership & Collaboration:
Led by Professor Sarah Younie with Dr. Sapphire Crosby, Germ’s Journey works in close collaboration with teachers and healthcare professionals, co-creating culturally relevant resources in 10 languages.
• Reach:
Over 17,500 educational kits and books distributed across three continents, including schools, community centres, and hospitals.
